THE IMPACT OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE In ARIZONA
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart disease and stroke, is the leading cause of death in Arizona, claiming a life every 42 minutes and accounting for over 21% of all deaths in the state.
The burden of CVD is particularly severe for the aging population, as older adults face a higher prevalence of heart disease and stroke, compounded by age-related risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes. This growing demographic will drive demand for specialized cardiovascular care.
CVD also has a significant impact on low-income and rural communities, where limited access to preventive care and specialized treatment heightens vulnerability.
As Arizona’s population continues to grow and age, combating CVD will require enhanced prevention, early detection, and equitable access to treatment to reduce its escalating impact across the state.
